The ingredients needed to make Christmas Shortbread:
- Make ready 250 g butter , at room temperature
- Get 3/4 cup icing sugar mixture
- Prepare 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Take 2 cups plain flour
- Make ready 1 teaspoon cinnamon ground
- Get 1/4 cup sugar raw
- Prepare 1 cup icing sugar
- Make ready water
- Prepare green and yellow food dye
- Prepare Red edible pearl decorations or M & M
To make the Christmas tree shapes we used a large tree cookie cutter. Make sure you cut a bottom and a top biscuit. The holidays are definitely made for baking. I love trying out new recipes and creating adorable new treats to enjoy.
Steps to make Christmas Shortbread:
- Use an electric beater to beat together the butter, icing sugar and vanilla in a bowl until pale and creamy.
- Stir in the flour and cinnamon until the dough comes together. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth. Shape into a disc and cover with plastic wrap. Place in the fridge for 15 minutes to rest.
- Roll out the dough between 2 sheets of non-stick baking paper until 5mm thick. Use a 5cm-diameter star-shaped pastry cutter to cut 65 stars from the dough. Place on lined trays. Place trays in the freezer for 15 minutes to chill.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes at 160 degrees until it is golden. Set aside on the trays for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool
- To make your frosting / Icing: Mix your confectioners sugar with a few drops of water and stir.
- In seperate bowls, add the food dye to reach desired color of green and yellow.
- Frost each cookie for the trees.
- Stack the cookies on top of each other binding each layer with a drop of frosting.
- Once dry, place your pearl decorations on the points of the stars.
- Finish the tree by placing the star on top!!! Enjoy this cookie :)
